Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of freedom and justice for all. He knew that when people join together, they can make the world a better place.
History has proven that each one of us can help bring about change whether that means equal access to a seat on the bus in Montgomery, Alabama or the ability of families around the world to guarantee regular and reliable access to food for their children.
This Monday, January 19, please answer President-elect Barack Obama’s call to service. Join one of the many groups of Americans leading service projects that day to bring Dr. King’s dream to life. Volunteer right in your own community, or go online and lend your skills to those in need thousands of miles away.
Give a minute, an hour, a day, a week, a month or even a year. But honor Dr. King’s memory. Pledge to fight against hunger and poverty and the forces of inequality, whether across town or across the world. You can start by signing the Action Center’s pledge to make service a part of your life from this day forward.
Sometimes the best way you can serve in a crisis is to support those who are providing help on the ground.
Despite the obstacles, Mercy Corps is delivering food and medical supplies to hundreds of Gaza families in need.
