ZAWIYAH, Libya (March 8, 2011) — The people of Zawiyah are fighting for their lives. We have seen with our own eyes Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s forces firing on peaceful protesters.
We have witnessed the regime’s tanks shelling residential buildings. We have sheltered in a mosque as the colonel’s soldiers fired on the minarets. Later, we were in the town’s Martyrs’ Square watching the rebels’ celebrations as the authorities in Tripoli told the foreign media they had “liberated” the place.

While Gadaffi uses the army to crush the freedom fighters, America twiddles its thumbs. Day by day, more people are killed by tanks, artillery and warplanes. How can they fight against weapons like these, against men trained to kill?

America and Nato do a lot of talking but do nothing. Sure, the U.S. has warships off the Libyan coast but, other than polluting the waters of the Mediterranean, they are achieving nothing.

Of course, the US is unsure of what to do. It has made such a mess in Iraq and Afghanistan and the cost of the mess is so high that it is pausing, which is a nice change. But what does it mean? Does it mean that America is going to give up its quest to control the world?

No way. It was born to rule the world, remember!
