(May 26, 2013) — This Memorial Day, Link TV and explore.org are honoring veterans with a special presentation of the award-winning explore documentary Fish Out of Water. The film profiles combat vets suffering from PTSD who participate in a fly fishing workshop hosted by the Idaho-based non-profit Sun Valley Adaptive Sports.
As the vets share their personal stories of struggle against the serene backdrop of the Sun Valley landscape, Fish Out of Water poignantly reveals the connection between nature and healing.
Then, join filmmaker Charlie Annenberg in an intimate studio interview with two veterans featured in the film, Christian Ellis and Joe Gracia, who share how they continue to heal from wounds of war.
USMC Sergeant Christian Ellis was a machine gunner in Iraq whose platoon was ambushed, leaving him with a broken back and one of only a few survivors. He returned home to join millions of Americans who struggle with piecing their lives together in the shadows of post-traumatic stress.
In the interview, Christian Ellis talks of his dream about writing an opera. But he is still struggling with the challenges of PTSD. After four suicide attempts and with the help of a philanthropist, an acclaimed New York librettist of Iraqi descent, an accomplished composer, and City Opera Vancouver, Christian turn his demons of combat into the first opera on the Iraq war, Fallujah.
