Tell Rick Perry Not to Let Trump
Do the Bidding of Big Polluters
Allison Fisher / Public Citizen
(July 23, 2017) — The Trump administration could very well censor a new study that does not support its dirty energy agenda.
Don’t let that happen.
The study’s findings — released last week by US Department of Energy (DOJ) staff — do not support a bailout of failing fossil fuel and nuclear plants. But the Trump administration expected the study to be the blueprint for its plan to fuel the dirty energy regression.
And the administration is now warning that the final, Trump-approved version of the report could reach a dirty energy-friendly conclusion that encourages handouts to Big Polluters.
ACTION: Tell Energy Secretary Rick Perry to keep dirty energy bailouts out of the DOE plan. Act now.

ACTION: Don’t let Trump and Perry Kill Clean Energy
Rhea Suh / The Natural Resources Defense Council
(July 23, 2017) — This summer, Congress continues debating which elements of President Trump’s disastrous budget proposal to keep or discard. We’ve been updating you on the administration’s unconscionable cuts to the EPA’s budget, but there’s another massive cut on the table that should deeply worry anyone who cares about the environment.
Trump and his energy secretary, Rick Perry, want to slash funding for common-sense clean energy programs by a devastating 70 percent. The plan to gut the Department of Energy’s clean energy work comes while the administration dramatically scales up its embrace of fossil fuels and scales back America’s commitment to the fight against climate change.
Ramping up our investment in clean energy sources like wind, solar and energy efficiency is the only path forward to build a healthy, sustainable future for our planet. But Trump and Perry aren’t just pushing a cut to clean energy funding; they’re also pushing to eliminate government research and development into new energy technologies altogether.
If they succeed, it will be a catastrophic blow to our fight against climate change, and put millions of current and future clean energy jobs at risk.
Congress has the power to stop this damaging plan in its tracks — but it will take overwhelming pressure to compel our legislators to stand up to the White House and its corporate polluter allies. The NRDC Action Fund’s lobbying team is working on Capitol Hill to stop Trump’s atrocious budget proposals, but Congress also needs to hear from constituents like you.
Investing in clean energy and efficiency isn’t only about the environment — it’s also about building a strong, skilled labor force, making U.S. companies more competitive in the global market and helping millions of Americans save money on energy.
We need more clean energy, not more of the dirty fossil fuels of the past. Trump and Perry’s reckless budget plan throws all of that in jeopardy. We must make our voices heard at the Capitol right away. Help us turn up the heat. Tell your members of Congress to represent YOU, not the fossil fuel industry, and to stop these short-sighted cuts!
THE LETTER:
Oppose Cuts to Clean Energy Funding
Dear Legislator:
As your constituent, I urge you to oppose the huge cuts to the Department of Energy that President Trump has proposed in his FY18 budget plan. This budget would terminate the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, a bipartisan initiative funding research into new energy technology, and reduce funding for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy by $1.4 billion, or 70 percent.
These cuts would badly hamper our ability to stay competitive in the emerging clean energy economy. They would also kill thousands of clean energy jobs across the country. I urge you to oppose them, and any budget that would slash funding for clean energy. Thank you.

Bernie Fights to Oppose GOP’s New Dirty Energy Bill
Marlee Kokotovic / Nation of Change
(July 23, 2017) — Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) introduced the Energy and Natural Resources Act, a bipartisan bill, last June that is supposed to be voted on in the Senate this week. Senator Bernie Sanders wants to make sure the bill does not pass.
Environmentalists, who are calling this bill “a pro-fracking giveaway to oil and gas interests that would commit America to decades more of dangerous fossil fuel dependence,” believe the bill will incentivize the creation of harmful new natural gas pipelines and fossil fuel exploration.
“This bill would lock in our dependence on fossil fuels for decades to come, directly undermining our country’s efforts to stave off the worst effects of climate change,” a progressive letter read.
“Our job is to move away from fossil fuels toward sustainable energy and energy efficiency,” Sanders said in a statement. “This bill does the opposite.”
Republicans say the bill will modernize America’s energy infrastructure. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is hoping this bipartisan legislation will easily pass, unlike the Republicans failed attempt at passing their health care bill.
Sanders is hoping to make amendments to the legislation before it is voted on, but the changes would have to be voted on by the Senate. So far, Sanders is the only senator to publicly oppose the bill.
Over 350 progressive organizations support Sanders in opposing this bill.

(July 21, 2017) — Trump may have pulled us out of the Paris Climate Agreement, but you now hold a powerful tool to show that you’re moving towards a clean energy future.
LCV is working with our friends at Arcadia Power to provide members like you the option to support clean energy. By signing up for Arcadia Power’s renewable energy program through LCV, you’ll begin to purchase clean energy right through your power bill each month. This helps to support wind farms across the country and ensures that for every dirty electron you use, a clean electron is produced. It’s that simple.
For years, Fortune 500 companies were able to access this market, but now Arcadia Power is making it easy for renters and homeowners to buy renewable energy too. There is nothing to install on your property, there are no contracts, and your local utility still delivers reliable electricity. The only difference is your utility account will be enrolled to Arcadia’s national renewable energy program. It takes just minutes to sign up.
Best of all, each LCV member who signs up by July 31 will receive a $10 savings credit to your next electric bill. You can join together with hundreds of LCV members who have already signed up and help support a clean energy future.
Just a few minutes of your time can help build the dirty energy resistance and power our clean energy future » https://www.arcadiapower.com
