#NoWar2022: Live & Online, July 8-10
Opting Out of Militarism; Promoting Regeneration
Hosted virtually through the Zoom Events platform, #NoWar2022 will facilitate international solidarity by bringing together speakers and attendees from around the world. As we resist the institution of war worldwide, from crippling sanctions and military occupations to the network of military bases that encircle the globe, how can we simultaneously “regenerate,” building the alternative world that we want to see based on nonviolence and a culture of peace?
#NoWar2022 will highlight unique stories of change-making, both big and small, around the world, that challenge the structural causes of war & militarism while, at the same time, concretely creating an alternative system based on a just and sustainable peace.
#NoWar2022 will illustrate inspirational examples of social change activism that, as described by political theorist Adrian Kreutz, “bring about this other world by means of planting the seeds of the society of the future in the soil of today’s. … [S]ocial structures enacted in the here-and-now, in the small confines of our organisations, institutions and rituals mirror the wider social structures we can expect to see in the post-revolutionary future.”
#NoWar2022: Resistance & Regeneration paints a picture of what the alternative to war and violence can look like. The “AGSS” — the alternative global security system — is World BEYOND War’s blueprint for how to get there, based on 3 strategies of demilitarizing security, managing conflict nonviolently, and creating a culture of peace. These 3 strategies are woven throughout the conference panels, workshops, and discussion sessions. Additionally, icons on the schedule below indicate specific sub-themes, or “tracks,” throughout the event.

Tell Congress:
It’s Time to Repeal the 2002 AUMF!
WASHINGTON (July 2, 2022) — 20 years ago — George W. Bush lied to Congress and received authorization to invade Iraq. It is now 2022, and Congress still has yet to repeal that authorization for the use of military force.
The good news is, right now, we’re as close as we’ve ever been to repealing the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force. Rep. Barbara Lee is again championing the issue in the House, pushing the repeal through committee, and Senators Tim Kaine and Todd Young are working on a bipartisan repeal in the Senate. And they’re not alone — all Democrats, and a sizable minority of Republicans, support repeal.
But we’re operating on a clock. We don’t know how the upcoming midterms are going to go. The Democrats could lose their majorities in Congress in November – and with that, their committee chairmanships. And one thing’s for certain is that if Mitch McConnell is the next Senate majority leader — we won’t even get a vote on the repeal!
We have a small window of opportunity and we’re going to use it. With enough grassroots pressure, Congress might finally repeal the ‘02 AUMF for good.
It is dangerous to give presidents the authority to wage war unilaterally. During the final year of the Trump presidency, Donald Trump used the ‘02 AUMF to assassinate General Qasem Soleimani of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps with a targeted drone strike in Iraq. That assassination brought the U.S. to the brink of an all-out war with Iran.
It makes no sense to keep this legal authority to wage war against a government that hasn’t existed for 19 years on the books. As long as this zombie law remains, hawkish politicians and warmongering generals alongside their weapons industry partners can justify any and all forms of military strikes within Iraq.
Thank you for working for peace,
