Indigenous activists protest the Willow Oil project.
ACTION ALERT:
Stop the Reckless Willow Oil Project
The Climate Reality Project
“The proposed expansion of oil and gas drilling in Alaska is recklessly irresponsible... The pollution it would generate will not only put Alaska native and other local communities at risk, it is incompatible with the ambition we need
to achieve a net zero future.”
— Al Gore, Founder of The Climate Reality Project
We couldn’t agree more.
The proposed Willow Project is a massive crude oil extraction project planned by ConocoPhillips in Alaska, capable of producing over 180,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak, making it the largest oil extraction project on federal lands in the United States.
Of course, the some 280 million metric tons of planet-warming carbon dioxide the Willow Project is projected to spew will not just affect Alaska. The consequences will be global.
Our community has already shared thousands of comments with the Bureau of Land Management to reject this project, but we can’t back down now. Already feeling the pressure from climate advocates like you, the Biden Administration pushed back its March 6 decision deadline — but a final decision is expected to be made in a few days.
Rising temperatures are pushing us closer and closer to catastrophic climate change. Developments like the Willow Project only increase the danger and take us further from the Biden Administration’s own goals to achieve zero net emissions by 2050.
Take action with us today to demand the Biden Administration reject the Willow Project.
Tell Biden: Reject the Willow Project
ConocoPhillips wants to build the single-largest oil extraction project on US federal lands, capable of producing over 180,000 barrels of oil each day at its peak.
Known as the Willow Project and located in Alaska, this project would spew over 280 million metric tons of planet-warming carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Right when scientists warn any new fossil fuel infrastructure will make meeting global climate goals all but impossible.
Our community has already shared thousands of comments with the Bureau of Land Management to reject this project, but we can’t back down now.
The Biden Administration has set bold goals to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Approving the Willow Project would not only be in conflict with those goals but push us closer to catastrophic climate change.
Take action with us today to demand
the Biden Administration
reject the Willow Project.
THE LETTER
If approved, the Willow Project would be a devastating blow to the Alaskan ecosystem, as the state is already warming twice as fast as the global average.
Alaskan community would once again have to experience the brunt of the health risks associated with fossil fuel production.
Of course, the some 280 million metric tons of planet-warming carbon dioxide the Willow Project is projected to spew will not just affect Alaska. The consequences will be global.
Rising temperatures are pushing us closer and closer to catastrophic climate change. Developments like the Willow Project only increase the danger and are taking us in entirely the wrong direction and further from the Administration’s own goals to achieve zero net emissions by 2050.
I urge you to reject the Willow Project. Thank you for your time,
Sincerely
