While the Pentagon Wastes Billions and Funds Unpopular Wars, Our Neighbors Are Suffering

(December 6, 2023) — On Monday, December 4, Our Revolution held an Economic Justice Town Hall with progressive leaders, including our endorsed candidate in the California Senate primary, progressive champion Congresswoman Barbara Lee.

On the call, she drew attention to the $150-$200 billion in waste, fraud, and abuse in the Pentagon’s budget — an outrageous figure with many working people struggling to afford rent and feed their families.

That’s why Congresswoman Lee joined Our Revolution’s founder, Bernie Sanders, and a Republican to introduce the bipartisan Audit the Pentagon Act.

Barbara’s bill requires the Pentagon to pass an independent audit of its budget or return part of its massive funding to the Treasury. Can we count on you to sign on and support this critical bill to stop extreme Pentagon waste?

Every agency in the government is required to pass an audit, but until Congresswoman Lee’s bill is passed, the Pentagon will remain the lone exception — despite recently failing its 6th (!) consecutive audit.

We could easily spend these billions of wasted dollars on affordable housing, healthcare, transportation, fighting the climate crisis, and other vital priorities.

Instead, millions of our neighbors remain stuck in poverty, and wealth inequality has risen to levels worse than the Gilded Age a century ago.

As Barbara said on the call, “The contractors and the millionaires and billionaires are scamming the system and scamming taxpayers, and taxpayers are paying excessive taxes. Low and middle-income families are fueling the Pentagon budget.”
