(January 12, 2024) — Last night, Biden started bombing Yemen. Why? Because the Houthis in Yemen are blocking commercial ships from going to Israel, in protest of the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Instead of calling for a ceasefire, Biden would rather push us into another deadly war. Instead of calling for a ceasefire, Biden would rather kill more innocent Yemenis. Instead of call for a ceasefire, Biden would rather go against the U.S. Constitution.

The Houthis are blockading ships destined for Israel to hold up their end of international law: prevent genocide. They have said once Israel stops bombing Gaza and blockading medicine from entering, they will stop their blockade of the Red Sea.

Instead of preventing genocide, the Biden Administration has armed, funded, and provided diplomatic cover for the genocide in Gaza. Biden would rather enter into a new war on Yemen than tell Israel to stop genocide. This is outrageous!

Article I of the Constitution clearly states that Congress is the only branch of government that can declare war. Biden announced his airstrikes on Yemen without Congressional approval. Members of Congress like Ro Khanna have already made statements against the airstrikes:

The President’s strikes in Yemen are unconstitutional. For over a month, he consulted an international coalition to plan them, but never came to Congress to seek authorization as required by Article I of the Constitution. We need to listen to our Gulf allies, pursue de-escalation, and avoid getting into another Middle East war. — Rep. Ro Khanna

We have no time to waste. After years of bombardment and blockade, Yemen cannot afford another war. There is only one solution: ceasefire now, and hands off Yemen!

US, UK Carry Out Strikes
Against Houthis in Yemen

The United States and Britain started carrying out strikes against targets linked to Houthis in Yemen, US officials report, the first-time strikes have been launched against the Iran-backed group since it started targeting international shipping in the Red Sea late last year.

TELL CONGRESS: HANDS OFF YEMEN
Thursday, January 11th the Biden Administration launched airstrikes on several targets in Yemen, citing the Houthis’ blockade of Israeli ships in the Red Sea. The US launched strikes on Yemen to further aid and abet the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Launching military action against another country without Congressional approval goes against Article I of the U.S. constitution. Many members of Congress made statements the night the Biden Administration launched these strikes condemning them. Tell the rest of Congress HANDS OFF YEMEN!

THE LETTER
On the evening of January 11th, the Biden Administration announced it was launching airstrikes against targets in Yemen in response to the Houthi blockade of the Red Sea. This decision was made without Congressional approval as required in Article 1 of the US Constitution.

As your constituent, I ask that you call on the Biden Administration to cease all operations in Yemen. Not only is this action illegal according to our own laws, but it also risks escalating the conflict and propelling us into another war.

This action was prompted by the ongoing genocide in Gaza, where over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since October 7th. The Houthis in Yemen responded to this by rejecting Israeli ships in the Red Sea. Instead of the United States calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the Biden Administration decided to fuel the flames of war by striking Yemen.

American, Yemeni, and people all over the world cannot afford another war. This act by the Biden Administration is a dangerous escalation and I ask that you use everything in your power to call for an immediate end to US action in Yemen. I look forward to your response.
