Open Letter: Take Action
To Stop the US War on Yemen!
The International Coalition to Stop Genocide in Palestine

(January 15, 2024) — We denounce the United States and United Kingdom’s military attacks on Yemen!

The International Coalition to Stop Genocide in Palestine is calling for an International Day of Action on Friday, January 19 to demand that the US and UK cease their military attacks on Yemen. We urge you to take action locally to raise awareness of the illegal aggression being unleashed on the Yemeni people through teach-ins, visibility actions, rallies or marches.

On January 11, 2024, as the world turned its attention to the start of the International Court of Justice’s hearings on South Africa’s charges of genocide by the state of Israel in The Hague, the United States and the United Kingdom assaulted Yemen with seventy-three raids on the capital and other locations, killing five people and injuring six people.

This assault is an effort by the US and UK to prevent Yemen from stopping the supply of weapons and goods to Israel through ships in the Arab and Red Seas. Yemen justifies its actions as necessary to stop the state of Israel’s genocidal acts against Palestinians under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, known as the Genocide Convention.

The military attacks are a violation of the sovereignty of Yemen and a violation of international law. They are fueling an escalation of conflict in the region that risks greater death and destruction.

The National Lawyers Guild, a member of the ICSGP, writes:
“The U.S. is unleashing a regional war, in what amounts to retaliation against Yemen and the Yemeni people for their principled actions in solidarity with the people of Palestine who are facing an ongoing genocide funded and armed by the U.S. itself.

Yemen is using its strategic position in the Red Sea to halt the passage of commercial trade to Israeli ports until the international community acts to stop the genocide taking place in Gaza at the hands of the settler colonial Zionist regime and to lift the siege on Gaza to allow food, medicine and fuel to enter.”

We must take action NOW to stop the attacks on Yemen and prevent an expanding war in the region. We urge you to call an emergency action on Friday, January 19.
