ACTION ALERT: Save Rafah’s Civilians
Avaaz & Win Without War
(March 22, 2024) — After boxing 1.4 million Palestinians into Rafah, Netanyahu has approved plans to invade the city. This invasion could be the worst thing Israel does since the start of their brutal attack on Gaza.
The world is holding its breath as Israel prepares for a massive ground invasion in Rafah, the last refuge in Gaza where over a million civilians have gathered. Thousands more innocent children could die, caught in the crossfire with no escape. Right now, Israel’s Minister of Defense is requesting more weapons ahead of the attack on Rafah.
We cannot let it happen. Israel’s military relies primarily on US support. Biden could stop the invasion by ending arms transfers to Israel. Demand he acts now, before it’s too late.
ACTION: Sign this urgent plea for peace, calling President Biden to halt arms to Israel before it’s too late. Stop this War!
Gazans forced to shelter in refugee tent camps in Rafah.
THE LETTER
“Dear President Biden,
You can stop Israel from invading Rafah and starving over a million civilians to death.
America is Israel’s biggest arms dealer. You are giving American weapons to a government that is blocking life-saving aid and violating international law. This will only stop when you demand it stops.
As people from across the world, we call on you to stop fueling death and suffering in Gaza.
No more arms to Israel!”
ACTION ALERT:
Save Starving Palestinians
Win Without War
(March 30, 2024) — The Israeli government’s blockade and restrictions on aid are pushing Gazans toward a catastrophic famine, Gar. According to the Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP), Cindy McCain: “People in Gaza risk dying of hunger just miles from trucks filled with food.”
Even as multiple countries work to airdrop aid into Gaza, thousands of people are starving. Necessities like flour and rice have become scarce. Adults are skipping meals to help, but nothing can stop children from going to bed with their stomachs aching and empty. Each day hundreds of people risk their lives to line up for food aid while the Israeli military drops bombs.
President Biden has announced that the U.S. military will construct a floating pier in Gaza to bring in more aid, but that construction could take weeks — and it’s not even clear if it’ll work. People in Gaza need help now.
The dire, deteriorating situation could deepen, but it doesn’t have to. Can you take action today to push the Biden administration to pressure the Israeli government to open the floodgates for aid and save lives?
The decline in aid is alarming. Before the war, at least 10,000 trucks carried food to Gaza each month. That number has plummeted to less than 18,000 total since the conflict began.
This week the International Court of Justice called on the Israeli government’s lift restrictions on aid which have left 100% of the 2.3 million people living in Gaza facing acute malnutrition. These unimaginable and unprecedented levels of food insecurity are the highest experts have ever reported.
These numbers and statistics represent a horrific reality. Early in February, CNN reported stories of people in the Gaza Strip eating grass and drinking polluted water and children living on the streets left to fight over stale bread.
The Worst May Be Yet to Come
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the death toll from sickness and starvation in the next few months could quickly eclipse the tens of thousands of people killed in the war so far.
Airdrops and temporary ports can help, but the reality is that they are band-aid solutions — and no substitute for a return to safely delivering aid by the existing routes, Gar,
Luckily the WFP, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the WHO have identified four key actions that could help save lives now:
- Open new entry routes;
- Allow more trucks through border checks each day;
- Ensure fewer restrictions on the movement of humanitarian workers; and
- Guarantee the safety of people accessing and distributing aid.
Can you join thousands of people in urging President Biden to use the full force of the U.S. government’s diplomatic influence to make them happen?
A crisis borne out of weapons and warfare is quickly turning into one of hunger and hopelessness, but it doesn’t have to. Sign now to tell the president: Stop a deepening famine in Gaza.
It’s not just bombs and bullets that can kill — hunger and disease are equally lethal.
Add your name to call on President Biden to pressure the Israeli government to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza now.
