NIGERIA (March 1, 2016) — A nine-year-old schoolgirl, Splendour Joe King, has given reasons why she ventured into writing a book on terrorism.

The little girl, whose book titled: “Effects of Terrorism on Children”, was presented at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, Tuesday, said she was inspired to write the book because when a child is changed, a whole generation is changed.

In her words, “My inspiration for writing this book came from my passion for children, especially those of them who are victims of terrorism. I therefore thought that I will be fair to my fellow children, born and yet unborn, by seizing this opportunity to write this book for their study and reference material.

“My second reason is that when we change a child today, a generation would be changed, since those who became terrorists today were once children like us.

“I strongly believe that permanent record like this could serve as a good source of information for children education in the future”.

She then urged the government at all levels to address the root causes of terrorism, which she identified as injustice, unemployment, poverty, inadequate education on the dangers of terrorism.

Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on legal matters, Prof. Adamu Kyuka Usman noted that the author deserves the support of all Nigerians, saying she has done well.

The mother of the little author, Mrs. Vera Joe King, in a chat with newsmen, disclosed that she when she discovered the talent in her daughter, she made up her mind to encourage and support her.

Present at the Presentation of the book were Senators, diplomats, and well meaning Nigerians, including the publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda Isaiah, Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoba, the Acting Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), among others.

(July 2, 2015) — Miss Splendour Joe Abisoye, 9, has officially presented a copy of her book, “Effects of Terrorism on Children,” to the Defense Headquarters. On her motivation to write the book, Splendour said, “These terrorists we see today were once children like us. I want to catch children young now, so their lives won’t be miserable in the future.”

She seeks to use the Defence Headquarters as a platform to reach out to other stakeholders in the fight against terrorism in the distribution of her books and to send them to all IDP camps, Almajiri schools and all military schools in Nigeria. She was accompanied by her parents Rev. and Mrs Joe King Abisoye.

While receiving her, Maj.Gen. Chris Olukolade, the Director, Defence Information, urged parents to encourage their children to do the right thing to make them useful to the society. He said: “This is the kind of encouragement we need to give to our children.

Unfortunately, people give different kinds of encouragement to their children. When they should be guided to develop their communication skills, many children are there on the Internet doing all kinds of things and getting negative communication.”

“I’m happy to share that I have been selected as a delegate at the 68th UN Commission on the Statues of Women conference.” — Splendour Joe King, 2024.

NAF To Introduce Peace Club In Schools

(2022) — The chief of air staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, has promised to help inculcate the peace club initiative in all Nigerian Air Force schools nationwide.

He said he would also support the best way possible in the fight against child terrorism.

Amao disclosed this when he received the Federal Capital Territory representative of the Nigerian Children’s Parliament, Miss Splendour Joe-King and members of her entourage at the NAF headquarters, Abuja, where he pledged the support of NAF to the children’s parliament in its quest to minimize the vulnerability of children and protect them against all forms of terrorism.

He said; “It is commendable that as a young lady, you have focused your attention on helpless children bearing in mind that sustenance of peace is key to nation building.”

He advised Miss Joe-King to look beyond her current focus on assisting school children but also focus on out-of-school children and women who according to him, bear the brunt of conflicts and are more vulnerable to being recruited as terrorists.

Air Marshal Amao further urged that the awareness campaign initiated be intensified, especially in rural communities to educate school children on the implications and effects of child terrorism and other social vices.
Earlier, Ambassador Joe-King, who is also a national peace ambassador and the representative of the FCT Nigerian Children’s Parliament, stated that her ongoing campaign, “Nigerian Children Call for Peace Project” was aimed at propagating peace, unity and sustainable development in Nigeria, as well as the establishment of peace clubs in schools across the country.

The initiative, according to her, intends to mainstream children into peace development and peace building to achieve a zero-violence society.

Miss Joe-King added that the urgent need to integrate terrorism education into the curriculum of primary and secondary schools was her inspiration for writing a book titled, ‘Effects of Terrorism on Children’.

She noted that the book was an opportunity to educate and carry all children along on matters concerning terrorism. She solicited NAF’s support and encouragement for the campaign to succeed and make remarkable impact on national development.
