A Live Conversation with the Author of Nuclear War
“In Nuclear War: A Scenario, Annie Jacobsen gives us a vivid picture of what could happen if our nuclear guardians fail…Terrifying.”
— Wall Street Journal
(May 16, 2024) — There is only one scenario other than an asteroid strike that could end the world as we know it in a matter of hours: nuclear war. And one of the triggers for that war would be a nuclear missile inbound toward the United States.
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have.
Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who have built the weapons, have been privy to the response plans, and have been responsible for those decisions should they have needed to be made. Nuclear War: A Scenario examines the handful of minutes after a nuclear missile launch. It is essential reading, and unlike any other book in its depth and urgency.
A Conversation with Annie Jacobsen: May 29
Back from the Brink
This is an invitation to our upcoming virtual event with Annie Jacobsen, investigative journalist and New York Times best-selling author of Nuclear War: A Scenario, on Wednesday, May 29 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.
We’re very excited for this opportunity to bring more attention to Ms. Jacobsen’s compelling and provocative book, raise awareness about the growing threat of nuclear war, and provide participants with tangible policy solutions and ways to take action.
For the discussion portion of the event, Ms. Jacobsen will be joined by Eddie Laiche (a high school senior from Burbank, California and co-founder of Students for Nuclear Disarmament), Dr. Ira Hefland (a leader of International Physicians for the Prevention of nuclear war and the International campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons), and Archbishop John Wester of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Archbishop Wester is a groundbreaking voice in the US Catholic Church who penned a pastoral letter on nuclear disarmament in 2022 after visiting Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
ACTION: We would like to invite you to personally register to attend the online event here.
