This kind of leadership was crucial to pushing President Biden to refuse Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu weapons for his disastrous invasion of Rafah last week. Pressure like this is how we’ll see an end to months of devastating violence and build the political space to secure sustainable peace for people across Israel, Palestine, and beyond.
Our movement to end the violence and suffering in Gaza may be gaining crucial power, but our work isn’t finished. Right now, the vast majority of Congress still supports unconditional military aid to the Israeli government — and that’s why we need to keep going.
That’s why we need to keep going. We are hearing reports that these members are getting a lot of blowback for their stance, and if we want to see them do more to push for peace, they need to hear from you:
We’re organizing a thank you message to members of Congress who are steadfastly working to condition offensive military aid to the Israeli government. Can you remind these 100+ members of Congress that the anti-war majority is with them in this fight?
Violence in Gaza has ended nearly 35,000 lives, the vast majority of them due to the Israeli military’s indiscriminate bombs. Thousands of children, aid workers, and journalists have been caught in the crossfire or targeted — yet the US government has been reluctant to stop providing offensive weapons to the Israeli government.
It’s not easy for a member of Congress to take a brave stand against the war machine, and we’re witnessing the beginning of the pushback. Hawkish colleagues and commentators are dragging these 100+ members of Congress in the press. The weapons lobby is writing checks to their electoral rivals. And powerful interest groups like AIPAC are rallying their supporters to flood the Capitol’s phone lines with criticism.
But guess what: When a whole movement of people fed up with the failed violence-first status quo speaks out, decision-makers remember they can choose a different path.
We need to maintain — and build — our momentum to end the violence and secure a ceasefire. That’s why today we will strengthen our allies’ resolve by sending them a clear signal that we see the ways they are pushing for peace and urge them to keep up the fight.
Together, we can end the violence, return the hostages to their families, and save lives in Gaza — before it’s too late.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
