No MAS! No Military Air Shows!
Team 350.org & Veterans ForPeace

(August 3, 2024) — As the US endures another year of record-breaking heat waves, droughts, and floods, the US military continues to pump tons of carbon emissions into the air for “entertainment.”

How? By hosting military air shows all across the country. Just one team of Thunderbird fighter jets flying overhead burns 18,200 gallons of jet fuel per hour — about as much fuel as it takes to fly from New York City to Paris.

This is why, together with our partners at Veterans For Peace, we are demanding the Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Torros and Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall III to cancel climate-wrecking air shows that glorify death and destruction.

The US military is the single largest institutional consumer of fossil fuels in the world and therefore one of the key contributors to the climate crisis. Canceling military air shows is only a first step, but it’s an important one to draw public attention to the impact of rising militarism on our planet.
ACTION: So please, help send a message to Secretary Del Torros and Secretary Kendall today and demand that they protect our future.

ACTION ALERT: No More!

(August 2, 2024) — This project is designed to engage climate/environmental groups and others to support ending all military air shows on the basis of the gratuitous pollution emitted by these entertainment-oriented performances.  This furthers discussion of the military’s contribution to the climate crisis and spotlights the fact the US military is the world’s single largest institutional consumer of fossil fuels and the world’s single largest institutional emitter of greenhouse gases.

Hosting a presentation of VFP’s Climate Crisis & Militarism’s educational slideshow provides many under-appreciated facts about the military’s role in worsening the climate crisis and can help convince your audience to call for the end to military air shows.

Case Study: Miramar Air Show in San Diego
and San Diego Veterans For Peace, Chapter 91

We did this by educating the San Diego public. This, in spite of San Diego’s reputation as a military town.  You too can do this if your community is affected by one of the nearly 65 scheduled “big banner”* military air shows in 2023.  AND we will gladly help you!

We will help you develop allies and amplify your voices.  Focusing on pollution makes the argument more easily understood to climate activists.  Please contact Dave Patterson at dpatterson998@yahoo.com for additional information
