Israel, backed by US, opens 7 war-fronts in neighboring countries.
We’re Terrifyingly Close to All-out War
Win Without War
(October 5, 2024) — The news gets scarier every minute:
Last week, the Israeli government began a ground assault in southern Lebanon, forcing over one million people to flee their homes and sending thousands more soldiers to join the war. Then, the Iranian government launched hundreds of missiles at Israel. Now, we await what comes next after Israeli PM Netanyahu’s promises that Iran “will pay”.
It all marks a terrifying escalation towards an all-out war between the Israeli government and multiple parties — and it only increases the likelihood the United States will be directly drawn in. We’re already seeing hawkish pundits and policymakers like John Bolton and Senator Lindsey Graham push us closer toward that war.
The US is likely the only government in the world capable of pulling PM Netanyahu away from this disastrous path. So far, however, key decision-makers have failed to use the full force of US influence to do it.
That inaction has already cost tens of thousands of lives – and as the conflict expands and the death toll mounts, the urgency for a ceasefire grows by the second. That’s where Win Without War comes in: We’re working day and night to demand something different than the violence-first strategies that start wars and end lives.
If PM Netanyahu proceeds on the disastrous path he’s on, the suffering we’re witnessing will skyrocket exponentially. Already, several hundred people in Lebanon are dead as the Israeli military’s assault deepens. Across the region, schools are being turned into shelters, and parking garages into hospitals. The IDF has already cut off a key route to safety out of Lebanon into Syria.
Right now, the entire world is bracing for news of even more bombs, and even more deaths.
While President Biden said Wednesday he opposes an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites, words won’t be enough. In the meantime, the Israeli government continues to thwart the Biden administration’s efforts to de-escalate.
It is beyond time for the Biden administration to take stock of the situation and understand the necessity of using all the diplomatic tools available to de-escalate to avoid further catastrophic and senseless violence. President Biden should enforce US law immediately to suspend offensive US military aid to the Israeli government and ensure the violence ends today.
We Must Break This Deadly Cycle.
Our team is working overtime to do it – furiously pushing Congress to uphold US law and end US complicity, applying sustained pressure on the Biden administration to pull the Israeli government back from the devastating path it’s on and focus on bringing the hostages home, and working with partners across the region to build the space for a peaceful solution.
Just one of these efforts requires our focus full-time, but with violence increasing exponentially, we need to dig deeper and find ways to go further, fast.
To ensure we have the resources necessary for what comes next, Win Without War needs 159 people to start a monthly donation THIS WEEK. If you can give $5, we’re asking you to give $5. If you can match our monthly sustainer average of $14, or contribute even more, please give that. What matters most is you stay committed to this work — and an entire movement dedicated to peace — however you can.
Our team is sprinting to stop an all-out war between the Israeli government and multiple parties. As we race to advocate for peace with decision-makers in DC and build a movement powerful enough to end a war, we hope you’ll make an urgent monthly donation now. Can we count on you?
Our job is nothing short of stopping a region-wide war in the Middle East, Gar. We’re terrifyingly close to the point of no return, so if it’s in your budget, please power our crucial work today.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
P.S. On the eve of October 7 and the one-year mark since Hamas’ attacks into Israel and the start of the war in Gaza, we’d like to share an opportunity to attend a virtual gathering from our partners at Combatants for Peace.
A note from CFP: “This moment urges us to honor the sacredness of every life lost to violence, acknowledge our deep sorrow, and renew our commitment to peace, freedom, and safety for all.
On October 6, 7, and 8, we welcome you to connect with our international community online at 2:00 PM ET / 9:00 PM Jerusalem Time. Register for the event here.
Through these virtual gatherings, we aim to create a unified space for processing grief, confronting the systems of oppression that cause suffering, and reimagining the crisis in Israel and Palestine. Together, we can foster a shared vision of reconciliation, justice, and collective action for peace.”
