(December 26, 2024) — Human rights activists from 10 counties in Northern California have filed a class-action lawsuit against Rep. Mike Thompson and Rep. Jared Huffman for funding the genocide in Gaza. Endorsers of the lawsuit include Taxpayers Against Genocide, Roots Action, CODEPINK Bay Area, and more. CODEPINK pressed the campaign by hosting a demonstration outside the entrance to the Federal Building in San Francisco. Here is a video of the hour-long protest.

California Congressmen Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson are facing a class-action lawsuit for using US taxpayer dollars to fund genocide in Gaza — and we need your help to hold them accountable!

This lawsuit, filed by constituents and endorsed by CODEPINK San Francisco, Taxpayers Against Genocide, Roots Action, Party for Socialism and Liberation, Sonoma Valley Solidarity With Palestine, Marin DSA, SURJ Marin, Raizes Collective, and more, across ten California counties, displays a new, bold step towards holding US politicians accountable for their role in Israel’s war crimes.

As Palestinian families fight for survival, we cannot let our elected officials escape responsibility for enabling Israel’s genocide campaign. Sign the petition to express your support for the lawsuit and show that disgust with the actions of US politicians is not confined to California! Add your name — together, we can make sure the US District Court in San Francisco sets a precedent for justice!

We, the undersigned, stand in strong support of the class action lawsuit filed against California Congressmen Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson for their use of US taxpayer dollars to fund genocide in Gaza. This lawsuit seeks to hold these representatives accountable for enabling and financing Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which has murdered hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, displaced millions, and reduced Gaza to rubble.

By supporting the continued transfer of arms to Israel despite mountains of evidence of war crimes, Huffman and Thompson have violated the Foreign Assistance Act, the Arms Export Control Act, the US War Crimes Act, the Leahy Law, the Genocide Convention Implementation Act, and several treaties. They must face legal accountability for their complicity in these atrocities.

Enough is enough. The American people will not stand by as their tax dollars are used to fund war crimes and violations of basic human rights. This lawsuit represents a critical step toward justice and accountability, and we demand that the court:

  1. Hear the case with urgency and ensure the voices of the plaintiffs and Palestinians are amplified.
  2. Hold Huffman and Thompson accountable for violating US laws by enabling genocide through taxpayer funding.
  3. Set a precedent that elected officials cannot act with impunity when it comes to funding and enabling war crimes.

We sign this petition to display our unified front against genocide and show that we share the same sentiment as the plaintiffs of this lawsuit. We urge the US District Court in San Francisco to act swiftly in pursuing this case and to uphold the principles of justice for Palestinians, who have faced the worst consequences of these crimes.
