Hundreds of protesters shut down the entrance to Maersk’s headquarters in Copenhagen, demanding the Danish shipping giant halt all transportation of military equipment to Israel.

(February 25, 2025) — Danish police arrested 20 people in Copenhagen during a protest calling on the global shipping giant Maersk to stop transporting military equipment to Israel.

Media reports said that a protest was organised in front of Maersk’s headquarters in Copenhagen on Monday, with climate activist Greta Thunberg among the protestors who blocked the company’s entrance in an effort to protest against the company’s support for Israel.

Hundreds of demonstrators demanded the company stop transporting military equipment to Israel, holding up Palestinian flags and banners reading “Maersk profits from the genocide in Gaza.”

Thunberg said in a video posted on social media, “We are here to demand that Maersk must stop all the transportation of weapons and weapon components to Israel,” adding, “They must terminate all contract and investment that supports the genocide and occupation of Palestine.”

Maersk’s role in shipping the armoured vehicles came to light as part of an investigation from researchers with the Palestinian Youth Movement and Progressive International. The investigation details how Maersk has shipped millions of dollars of military goods, including hundreds of armoured and tactical vehicles and their components, to the Israeli Ministry of Defence since Israel’s genocidal war began in 2023.
