On April 5, We Take a Stand!

(March 28, 2025) — Marco Rubio is shredding the right to free speech, and he’s proud of it. Earlier today, when he was asked by a reporter how many visas had been revoked from pro-Palestine students, he bragged, “Maybe more than 300 at this point. We do it every day, every time I find one of these lunatics.”

The campaign of persecution playing out on college campuses across the country is meant to have a chilling effect on everyone in society who stands with Palestine. The national march on April 5 in Washington, D.C. is our chance to come together in huge numbers to send a clear message to Rubio, Trump and everyone else who wants to criminalize opposition to genocide: We are not afraid!

Relying on laws from the era of McCarthyism, Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Ozturk and so many others have been arrested or are facing arrest. Others have been expelled, kicked out of their housing, or had their diplomas revoked. And if we don’t stand up to him now, Trump won’t stop with the Palestine solidarity movement — anyone who opposes any aspect of his far right agenda will be targeted.

If each individual is left to fight by themselves, then Trump has the upper hand. But if we unite and stand together in solidarity, we can turn back this wave of repression and build a movement to stop the massacre in Gaza that is broader and stronger than ever before. The April 5 march is a critical opportunity to do this.

A broad coalition has come together for this pivotal action. Initial sponsors include the Palestinian Youth Movement, The People’s Forum, the ANSWER Coalition, American Muslims for Palestine, Democratic Socialists of America, Jewish Voice for Peace, U.S. Palestinian Community Network, U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations, U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, Palestinian Feminist Collective, AROC Action, and Al-Awda, and many more are joining.

For over 16 months, Gaza has endured a brutal, ongoing genocide carried out by Israel with the full backing and support of the US government. Israel continued to violate the terms of the ceasefire reached on January 19th, breaking it over 980 times, and culminating in a complete blockade of the Gaza strip which began on March 1st and a return to all out war on March 17th. In the past week alone Israel has intensified the bombing of Gaza, began a ground invasion and killed over 500 Palestinians within 48 hours.

The movement against genocide in North America has risen time and time again in support of Gaza and will not rest now. The Trump administration, building on the tactics of the Biden administration, is now increasing its attempts to silence pro-Palestine, anti-genocide voices.

This movement is made of students, workers, teachers, artists, activists, healthcare workers, tech workers and people of conscience all over the world who will not back down in the face of repression and intimidation, and will never back down so long as Gaza is under attack. That’s why on April 5th we are standing up to Trump and his ethnic cleansing plan for Gaza, we are standing up to repression, and we are standing up to the US’s continued facilitation of the genocide in Gaza. We demand a permanent ceasefire and an arms embargo now!
