ACTION ALERT: Stop New Nuclear Bomb Plants

May 12, 2012
Tri-Valley CARES

Some members of Congress are currently pushing to build a huge plutonium facility for nuclear weapons at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, even though President Obama proposed postponing its construction for at least five years. There is no need for this bomb plant, yet it would cost over $5 billion to construct. On May 16, the House of Representatives will decide whether or not to authorize construction for next year.

ACTION ALERT:
Stop New Nuclear Bomb Plants

Some members of Congress are currently pushing to build a huge plutonium facility for nuclear weapons at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, even though President Obama proposed postponing its construction for at least five years.

There is no need for this bomb plant, yet it would cost over $5 billion to construct.

On May 16, the House of Representatives will decide whether or not to authorize construction for next year. This wrong-headed funding will be voted on as part of the House Defense Authorization bill.

Please call your representative today and ask her or him to oppose funding for this unnecessary nuclear bomb plant. You can also add your own thoughts about funding nuclear weapons. But please call before Wednesday, May 16!

Call your representative through the capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. If you don't know who your representative is click here: www.house.gov/representatives/find/

Here is a suggested message:
"My name is ____ and I live in _____. I am calling to ask Rep. ____ to “vote to cut funding for nuclear weapons and new bomb plants.”

Please call your representative today and keep their phones ringing off the hook.

We can’t let them slip this wasteful funding under the radar. Please help us stop this unnecessary bomb plant from being built.

Stopping nuclear weapons where they start.
Our work depends on the generosity of supporters like you. Please click here to make a secure, tax-deductible contribution to Tri-Valley CAREs, 2582 Old First Street, Livermore, CA 94551. Ph. 925-443-7148.

New Tri-Valley CAREs’ Report, “Fewer Warheads, More Spending: An Analysis of the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Request for Nuclear Weapons”
Posted by Marylia Kelley

LIVERMORE, CA (March 15, 2012) -- Dr. Robert Civiak, physicist and former Budget Examiner for DOE nuclear security activities at the White House Office of Management and Budget, has prepared a detailed report of the Fiscal Year 2013 budget request for nuclear weapons activities. His analysis debunks the myths put forth by NNSA to justify the rise in recent and projected spending on nuclear weapons and identifies $1.540 billion in potential savings in the nuclear weapons budget request.
