ACTION ALERT: Prepare to Protest Afghan Escalation

November 30, 2009
World Canít Wait & Progressive Democrats of America

On Tuesday, December 1st, President Obama will announce plans to expand the occupation of Afghanistan with 34,000 more troops. This is not a "good" war. Afghanistan is now really Obama's war. The richest country with the most powerful highly militarized empire is destroying one of the poorest countries.

Stop the Escalation - US Out of Afghanistan Now!
World Canít Wait

(November 28, 2009) ó On Tuesday, December 1st, President Obama will announce plans to expand the occupation of Afghanistan with 34,000 more troops. This is not a "good" war. Afghanistan is now really Obama's war. He's in it to "win" and "finish the job." Is it your war? The richest country with the most powerful highly militarized empire is destroying one of the poorest countries!

See the video from last Saturday in NYC: Elaine Brower, Mac Bica, Matthis Chiroux, Debra Sweet & Andy Zee on why we should protest and what difference it makes. You don't end a war by sending more troops!

The only resolution in the interests of the people of Afghanistan and the world, including the people of the U.S., is to get out of Afghanistan and end the occupation of Iraq.

No, these protests will not change the government's plans. They know that the majority of people are now against the occupation of Afghanistan, and they are trying to change that by bullying their way through an illegitimate occupation.

The purpose of our protests is to reach the people! We must be visible, and send a message world-wide that there are people living in this country who say -- NO, not in our name!

When your government is escalating this murderous war with no end in sight, and the people of the world want to know what the people inside this country think about this and what we're going to do about it -- what can our answer be? Join this protest yourself -- and between today and Wednesday, tell everyone you know that you'll be there -- and that you want them there with you. If each person reading this email brings two others to march next to you, we will fill the street. Call or email those two friends and don't let them stay home when the world truly is watching.

The White House Listens But Does It Hear?
Progressive Democrats of America

In a few days, President Obama will reveal a new U.S. policy in Afghanistan for the coming year. Last week, PDA national director Tim Carpenter attended a White House meeting to discuss PDA's position on Afghanistan policy. PDA was fortunate to be among those who were invited.

Considering PDA's well-known advocacy against seeking a military solution in Afghanistan, it may be significant that Tim was invited to attend this meeting. It is more important than ever for PDA members to keep up the pressure for a non-military solution in Afghanistan.

ē Call President Obama at 202-456-1111 and deliver the same message Tim delivered at the meeting: "Instead of spending 90 percent of the U.S. budget in Afghanistan on military operations and 10 percent on humanitarian aid, we say spend 90 percent on infrastructure, schools, jobs, medical care and humanitarian aid, and 10 percent on the military."

President Obama should make the difficult political decision to meet the overwhelming human need in Afghanistan--to actually win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people.

We hope you enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving. Despite the challenges we face here, the Afghan people have very little for which to be grateful. Please take this very important action--don't delay--call now: 202-456-1111.

Progressive Democrats of America is a grassroots PAC that works both inside the Democratic Party and outside in movements for peace and justice. Our goal in 2009: Expand progressive influence in Congress as we build on our 2008 electoral successes. PDA's advisory board includes seven members of Congress and activist leaders such as Tom Hayden, Medea Benjamin, Thom Hartmann, Jim Hightower, and Lila Garrett.
