Resolution on the Pre-Emptive War Against the Nation of Iraq
Adopted
unanimously on February 12, 2003 by the Board of Directors of
the
Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition
Whereas, the Bush administration's
doctrine of preemptive war and planned
military invasion of Iraq will cause enormous human suffering
and
environmental damage at home and abroad;
Whereas the Bush administration's
impending invasion of Iraq undermines
civil liberties and escalates physical, economic, political
and cultural
violence against all people, especially people of color,
indigenous
peoples, and Third World peoples;
Whereas, youth, particularly
poor and working-class youth of color, are
frequently victims of war through forced inscription, economic
draft and
placement on the frontlines;
Whereas, the war against Iraq could
lead, under current U.S. military
doctrine, to the offensive use of nuclear weapons on the
battlefield by
U.S. forces, abolishing the threshold of terror respected
since 1945, and
as a consequence, vastly accelerate the proliferation
of these weapons of
mass destruction;
Therefore, be it resolved, that the Board of
Directors of the Silicon
Valley Toxics Coalition declares its strong opposition
to the initiation of
a preemptive war against the Nation of Iraq and to
the use of nuclear
weapons.
